Dementia Friendly Garden

Our dementia friendly garden was thoughtfully designed for a nursing home in Winchester, addressing the need for a complete transformation of an outdoor space that was previously inaccessible to residents.

With years of support for the Alzheimer’s Society and personal experience caring for a loved one with dementia, we are passionate about creating garden spaces that enhance the quality of life for residents in care homes.

Designing dementia friendly gardens involves careful consideration of accessibility for residents, staff, and families, along with practical, aesthetic, and sensory elements to ensure a welcoming environment for everyone.

Our gardens are designed to offer peaceful places to sit, experience nature, and engage with plants through touch and scent, evoking fond memories and providing a tranquil retreat for residents, their families, and staff - never themed or childlike, always focused on comfort and connection.

The garden features a spacious, sunlit dining terrace, a shaded gazebo, and winding paths with plenty of benches and rest points. There’s a lawn and a versatile garden room in the sunniest area, while the calming sound of a glass ball water feature can be enjoyed from the bedrooms.

Every part of the garden is accessible, and our plantings are designed to provide vibrant color and structure throughout the year, ensuring ongoing interest and enjoyment for all.
